A. Setting up

A.1 How do I setup 1001bit tools?

Setting up for Sketchup 2014, 2015 on Windows and Mac

Step 1: Download 1001shadows (1001shadows(1.0.x)en.rbz file).

Step 2:Start Sketchup

Step 3:Go to menu Window >> Preferences you should see an Install extensions button.
Click the button and select the downloaded 1001shadows(v1.0.x).rbz file

and you're done! You can now run the scripts

Manual Setting up for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7

Step 1: Download 1001shadows (1001shadows(1.0.x)en.zip file).
(note: if you have downloaded 1001shadows(v1.0.5)en.rbz file, you can rename the file extention (.rbz) to .zip

Step 2:Place the 1001shadows folder into Sketchup's plugin folder.
i.e. the 1001shadows folder should be at
"C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins\1001shadows"

Step 3: Copy the file 1001shadows.rb and place it in SketchUp Plugins folder.
On a PC, this file should be located at
"C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins\1001shadows.rb".

The screen shot below shows the correct location for the 1001shadows folder and the 1001shadows.rb file.


and you're done! You can now run the scripts from the 1001bit menu when you run Sketchup.

Setting up for Mac OSX

Step 1: Download 1001shadows tools (1001shadows(1.1.x)en.zip file).

Step 2:Place the 1001shadows folder into Sketchup's plugin folder.
i.e. the 1001shadows folder should be at
"/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google Sketchup 7/Sketchup/plugins/1001shadows"

Step 3: Copy the file 1001shadows.rb and place it in SketchUp Plugins folder.
On a Mac, this file should be located at
"/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google Sketchup 7/Sketchup/plugins/1001shadows.rb".


The screen shot below shows the correct location for the 1001shadows folder and the 1001shadows.rb file.


and you're done! You can now run 1001shadows in Sketchup.

A.2 Can I place the .rb files in folder other than inside Sketchup's Plugins folder?

No. Unlike 1001bit tools, 1001shadow must to installed in Sketchup's Plugins folder.

A.3 How do i run 1001bit tools scripts?

If you've downloaded and placed the scripts in the correct location (refer above) you should find the tools inside the pull down menu >> Plugins >> 1001shadows >>
1001shadows also comes with a set of toolbars. Just pick on the icons.

A.4 How do i know whether my version of Sketchup can run the scripts from 1001bit.com?

Sketchup version 4 and later (both standard and pro version) can run ruby scripts, and therefore can run 1001shadows. 1001shadows is free for trial for a period of 14 days before purchase. We strongly recommend that you try out the tool on your system before purchase. (some shadow analysis functions may take heavy processing processes, and may take a long time to process; especially working on models with curved surfaces.)
